April 3, 1999
On this day, exactly thirteen years ago, Eric Harris penned his final journal entry. Instead of leaving us with a lasting impression as the godly badass that he would’ve liked to been, Eric divulged much to us about his true self. With NBK closing in, his main priorities included trying to get laid and finishing off bombs for his and Dylan Klebold’s attack on the school. At this point, everything he heard and saw could be incorporated into the murder-suicide that had been conspired in secret for months. It felt like a goddamn movie. Eric considered placing mines and trip bombs around Littleton, for a couple more “frags” (in video games, this is slang for number of kills) on the scoreboard. He goes on to express his distaste for the friends who failed to include him in all their fun. They had his phone number and all, but no. No no no. He goes on to conclude his journal with a sentiment we can all relate to: being fed up with lack of respect. Don’t we all despise this treatment, especially from those we call friends? Did Eric feel the least bit pathetic about writing this (one of his more personal, revealing entries) for the world to see? And in these last few weeks of Eric’s life, could a simple phone call or invitation out have deterred him from going through with such a terrible deed? Was he too far gone to even care?
